BDSM Terminology Explained(Animal play/Pet Play/Pony Play/Puppy Play)

There are so many terms in BDSM that it can often be confusing so we thought it would be a good idea to explain some terms in a series of articles. As we grow, we will add more articles and expand on the terminology. We ask all our readers to comment below on any terms they would like explained further or to contribute. Please always remember that all play must be safe, sane, and consensual (SSC).

Animal play

Any play where one of the participants usually the submissive dresses up and behave as a type of animal. This play should not be mistaken with zoophilia or bestiality which involves sexual interaction with a real animal. Animal play sometimes involves sex but is more of a type of role play. Players immerse themselves in the animal they are dressed as and become that animal. Animal play can also be referred to as Pet Play. Typically the most common types of animals in these scenes are puppies, ponies and kittens.

Puppy Play

Puppy Play involves a person or persons taking on the “primal” role and mentality of a dog and exploring nonhuman desires and headspace via that experience. Typically it is a D/s relationship with the Dominant playing the role of the handler or trainer and the submissive taking on the role of the puppy. Puppies can be male or femal.

Pony Play

Like Puppy Play, Pony Play is also a D/s type role with the Dominant taking the role of the handler while the submissive takes on the role of the pony. There are also different types of ponies. Just like with horses there are different types of ponies like show ponies, work ponies and dressage ponies to mention a few.
